Marketing Communications Specialist - 290h.0910

Requirements (Degree/Experience):
Candidates must present evidence of:

1. A Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Business, English, Journalism, Communication or closely related field.
2. Minimum of three years post degree professional experience in writing and in graphic design.
3. Ability to interview, research, develop and write original work, news releases, magazine features, etc.
4. Skilled proficiency to design and layout materials and come up with original work.
5. Ability to write, edit and proofread the work of other department employees.
6. Ability to work independently with staff and units in a professional and mature manner.
7. Experience using Adobe Acrobat, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign or QuarkExpress
8. Experience using MS Office software applications (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook)
9. Experience in writing, design and/or maintenance of online media (website, social media, intranets, etc.)

Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Director of Marketing and Community Relations for the Division of Lifelong Learning and Community Engagement, the Marketing Communications Specialist will research and write copy for print and electronic media as well as create high-quality original layouts and designs for a variety of traditional print media and emerging multimedia to enhance the institution's visual image.

The writing will include brochures, news releases, feature stories, newsletters, advertising, web sites/pages, and e-communications. The Marketing Communications Specialist will assist the Director and divisional staff in developing and maintaining professional media relations; assisting media with their inquiries; and developing and implementing media plans as needed. The Marketing Communications Specialist will develop best practices, maintain high standards of copywriting and exercise quality control on all copy.

The design will include brochures, flyers, posters, postcards, specialty items, booklets, graphics, bulletin boards, web elements, multi-media and special projects. The Marketing Communications Specialist will assist the Director and divisional staff in determining project requirements, priorities and timelines that align with UW Oshkosh's marketing efforts.

The person in this position will be required to produce high quality products in support of the university-wide integrated marketing and communications brand strategy. This position will also serve as a brand champion liaison between integrated marketing and communications and LLCE ensuring that messaging, content and collateral reflects the university's brand.

Preferences:
Candidates should present evidence of:

1. Experience print production and working with vendors.
2. Experience with media. (i.e. newspaper, TV, magazine, etc.)
3. Experience using Associated Press (AP) writing style.
4. Working knowledge of adult nontraditional degree programs.
5. Experience in higher education.

Start Date:
December 1, 2009 or as soon as possible

Salary:
Competitive

Terms of Appointment:
Annual Contract - Contingent on Funding
