Responsibilities
Primary responsibility: teach 8-9 sections of Developmental Reading Skills (2 cr.) annually. Other duties: develop and present reading strategy workshops; provide individual reading skills assessment and counseling; participate in program assessment; develop and supervise a future reading instruction lab; collegially participate in department and professional activities.
Requirements
Master’s degree required in most instances, preferably in reading, adult literacy, or related field. Strong candidates with a bachelor’s degree who have credits toward a master’s in one of these fields and exhibit a combination of outstanding qualities and/or experiences may be accepted at the associate lecturer level. Teaching experience is also required with college-level or secondary experience preferred.
Preferences
Experience with college-level or secondary reading instruction and assessment highly preferred. Desired professional qualifications include: excellent oral and communication skills; evidence of initiative and leadership; demonstrated ability to work effectively with college students in both individual and group settings; strong organizational skills; ability and willingness to work collaboratively; commitment to serving diverse populations; strong desire for professional growth in developmental reading field; experience with new instructional technologies.
Starting Date
August 19, 2013 (additional compensation for preparation); semester begins September 3, 2013 .
