POSITION DESCRIPTION

Custodian – Clow Classroom

Custodial Services, FMC

UW Oshkosh

 

POSITION SUMMARY:

 

This position serves as a Custodian in Custodial Services, working 5:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, performing individual and/or group custodial duties for UW Oshkosh in academic buildings and surrounding areas.  Employee may come in contact with blood-borne pathogens and other potentially infectious materials and will be trained in the use of the proper cleaning methods and the use of protective equipment.  Custodian may operate the following equipment in the performance of his/her duties: upright, backpack and wet/dry vacuums, with the attachments; hand and walk behind floor scrubbers; upholstery and carpet shampooers; extension and other window washing equipment; foamers and pressure washers; and all custodial equipment. Note: Percent of time spent on each goal listed below may vary due to staffing levels within the department and operational needs.

 

GOALS AND WORKER ACTIVITIES:

 

50%                   A.          Perform custodial duties to include but not limited to: bathrooms, classrooms, offices, hallways, stairwells, landings, pool area, gyms, handball courts, weight rooms, locker rooms, lobbies, entrances, etc.

 

A1.        Clean and disinfect bathrooms, water fountains, locker rooms, showers, etc.  Replenish toilet tissue, paper towel and hand soap, as needed.  Foam and pressure wash bathrooms/showers, as needed.

A2.        Clean and sweep/mop/vacuum classrooms, offices, hallways, lobbies, stairwells, landings, entrances, etc.

A3.        Empty waste baskets.

A4.        Participate in recycling program.

A5.        Take trash and recycling from assigned areas to pick-up areas.

A6.        Spot clean carpets, walls, glass, partitions, doors, furniture, etc. as needed.

A7.        Dust furniture (public areas), wall vents, vertical trim, light fixtures, remove cobwebs, etc.

A8.        Replace light bulbs.

A9.        Report supply needs and work orders to supervisor in a timely fashion.

A10.      Empty cigarette urns and clean up entrances to building.

A11.      Maintain building security by locking/unlocking doors as required.

 

40%      B.           Performance of Individual and/or Group Custodial Assignments

 

B1.         Set-up/take-down furniture for special events, moves, work orders, etc.

B2.         Operate and maintain equipment to clean and maintain floor coverings and surfaces, including carpet and wood floors.

B3.         Perform annual cleaning (i.e. strip/scrub and wax floors; shampoo carpet and upholstery; wash windows and walls; refinish wood floors; clean light lenses, etc.).

B4.         Remove ice and snow from entrances and walks.

B5.         Keep utility rooms stocked and in order.

B6.         Report immediately any unsafe conditions (i.e. missing fire extinguishers, faulty switches, etc.). 

 

10%       C.          Performance of Miscellaneous Duties.

 

C1.        Test fire alarms.

C2.        Haul hazardous waste to designated area.

C3.        Other duties as assigned.

  • Ability to work both independently, with co-workers in a group, and with supervisor.
  • Understands safety regulations and performs work in a safe manner at all times, utilizing safety and personal protection equipment when necessary.

 This position will function as a member of the Facilities Management Custodial Services Team (46 custodians, 3 custodial supervisors, 1 custodial services programs supervisor) providing customer service and relations to the Academic community.  Employees are expected to be flexible in the performance of their job functions and to communicate respectfully with students, faculty, staff, co-workers, supervisors, the public, and other Facilities Management staff.

 

This position may occasionally be required to work hours in excess of the normal shift (Monday through Friday 5:00 a.m. to 1 p.m.) and after hours call ins, including occasional weekend and holiday hours.
