Inclement Weather

Just a reminder: On occasion, the University may suspend classes due to inclement weather. However, all other operations at the University continue, necessitating non-teaching staff to report to work. If you cannot report to work, contact your supervisor!

You may be able to:

  • Make up the remaining hours of work during the week of absence;
  • Use accumulated leave time - vacation, floating holidays, compensatory time, or
  • Use leave without pay. If you elect leave without pay there is no proration of benefits, and time cards should indicate WP (Without Pay) + Snow Day in the Hours Other* column.

If you must leave work early due to inclement weather, contact your supervisor. Supervisors are encouraged to approve these requests. However, employees leaving early are responsible for the hours missed. Options 1-3 listed above are available.

Alternative Work Patterns

The State of Wisconsin through its various State agencies (UW Oshkosh), recognizes the value of, and encourages supervisors and employees in the adaption and utilization of, Alternative Work Patterns. Incorporated in the UW Oshkosh Affirmative Action Plan, plus various W.S.E.U. contracts, Alternative Work Patterns can be identified as:

Flexible Work Schedules (Flextime): revolve around standard core hours of work with scheduled flexibility for beginning and ending times.

Part-Time Employment: permanent part-time positions working a minimum of 600 hours, but less than 2088 annually.

Job Sharing: two or more people divide the work of one full-time position sharing the same duties and responsibilities.

Prior to implementation of an Alternative Work Pattern, consideration must be given to such factors as employee benefits, organizational needs, scheduling, operational requirements, core hours, cost, etc. With supervisory approval, an Alternative Work Pattern may afford you, your supervisor and your department a unique method of performing your assigned job duties. For further information, consult your supervisor. If you have questions concerning state plans, contractual interpretation or preliminary review of proposed plans call John Willihnganz (0283).
