S.O.F.A. - Students of Oshkosh Finding Acceptance About us SOFA is a support group for LGBT youth in the Oshkosh area. They hold informal drop-ins ("meetings") every Tuesday. When: Every Tuesday 6:00-8:00pm Where: Winnebago Peace and Justice Center located at 321 market street, downtown Oshkosh. Contact Info: glbtsofa@hotmail.com History The idea behind SOFA is to have a safe, non-threatening, accepting group for Middle School and High School GLBTQ students where they can bring their concerns, fears, questions and talents. Our hope is that this group will give these students a sense of belonging and inspire positive and productive futures for them. The seeds of the idea came from a senior at UW-O, Erik Koepnick and by another Oshkosh Community leader, Carol DiBiasio-Snyder when they recognized the lack of any supportive place for youth age 14-18 who identify as LGBTQ (Gay, Lesbian, Bi-Sexual, Trans-Gender, Questioning) in the Oshkosh area. Since the start of the group they have been joined by other community members consisting of parents of GLBTQ children and GLBT and Straight concerned adults. These individuals share concerns and hopes for those who might otherwise be marginalized by their sexual orientation.
