Admission Requirements for the University Honors Program

Incoming Freshmen

Students with qualifying GPAs who earn a composite score of 26 or higher on the ACT are eligible to enroll in the UHP when they are admitted to UW Oshkosh as freshmen.

Students who automatically qualify will receive information about the Program from the Office of Undergraduate Admissions. These students need only to return the Honors invitation postcard to the UHP Office (Oviatt House) to confirm their acceptance.

Motivated students who do not meet these criteria are invited to present evidence of high academic potential along with a letter of petition and a copy of their high school transcript to the Honors Director:

Current UW Oshkosh and Transfer Students

Students who earn qualifying GPAs after the fall semester of freshman year will receive an invitation to join the UHP, regardless of high school performance.

Students who transfer to UW Oshkosh from an accredited college or university and have a record of high academic achievement may also join the program.

Transfer students with less than 45 credits who are interested in participating in the UHP meet with the Honors Advisor to determine how many Honors credits will be required, depending on which course have been completed. Those with 45 or more credits may be eligible for the UHP's 12-credit Transfer Student Pathway.

Kayde Kempen was the first student to complete the Transfer Student Pathway. She graduated and earned an Honors Medallion in Fall 2011. Kayde Kempen was the first student to earn an Honors Medallion by completing the Transfer Student Pathway. She graduated in fall 2011 with a BS in Journalism.

High school seniors and current UW Oshkosh students who are not automatically invited to participate in Honors are welcome to apply for admission. Applications should include a letter of interest explaining one's academic achievements and plans for graduation as well as the name and contact information of a reference. Students admitted in this way typically fall just short of the qualifications described above.
