uhp Requirements
Current UW Oshkosh and Transfer Students:
Students who transfer to UW Oshkosh from an accredited college or university and have a record of high academic achievement may apply for admission to the UHP upon their matriculation. Each continuing UW Oshkosh student who demonstrates exceptional academic ability at the university is also encouraged to apply, ideally before the end of sophomore year.
If students earn a 3.2 GPA or higher after the first semester of their freshman year, they will receive an invitation to join the UHP, regardless of high school performance.
Incoming Freshmen:
Students who graduate in the top 10% of their class at an accredited high school and earn a composite score of 26 or higher on the ACT are eligible to enroll in the UHP when they are admitted as freshmen. Students who automatically qualify will receive information about the program from the Office of Admissions. These students need only to return the reply card to the UHP Office (Polk 8) to be admitted.
Motivated students who meet only one of these criteria are invited to present evidence of high academic potential along with a letter of petition and a copy of their high school transcript to the UHP Director at the following address:
University Honors Program
UW Oshkosh
Attn: Dr. Roberta Maguire
800 Algoma Boulevard
Oshkosh, WI 54901
Petitions will be decided on a case-by-case basis.
Participation Policy:
UHP participants must maintain a minimum GPA standard of 3.2.
Students who complete the Honors curriculum and graduate with a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher (based on the total number of credits earned toward graduation requirements, including transfer, test, or retro credits) are awarded the Honors Medallion prior to commencement and are designated University Honors Program Graduates. The Chancellor awards the Honors Medallion at a recognition ceremony that parents, family, friends, faculty, and staff attend.
Students who complete the Honors curriculum and graduate with a GPA between 3.2 and 3.49 are designated University Honors Program Associates.
Ideally, students are able to incorporate at least one Honors requirement into each semester until the 20 Honors credits are met; however, if there are schedule conflicts or circumstances that require a student to be away for a whole semester (eg, study abroad program, job opportunity, or personal reasons), please let us know so that it can be noted in our records (424-1303 or honors@uwosh.edu).
The UHP will notify students who are not completing Honors requirements in a timely manner or whose GPAs are deficient. Upon notification, students must schedule a meeting with a UHP staff member. Students who do not schedule a meeting or develop a plan to address their lack of progress will be dropped from the program.
If you have specific questions about your admission to the UHP or about our particiaption policy, please contact our office at (920) 424-1303.
