UHSA Joins Fox Valley Polar Plunge

Saturday, February 18

Freezin’ for a Reason in Lake Winnebago

Miller’s Bay in Menominee Park (East Irving Avenue and Hazel Street) in Oshkosh

The Special Olympics Wisconsin (SOWI) Polar Plunge® is an unusual winter fundraiser that gives brave Wisconsinites the opportunity to leap into icy bodies of water in support of Special Olympics athletes. Plungers range from individuals to teams of students to law enforcement officers, professionals, and families. Anyone is welcome to be a Below Zero Hero so please join the UHSA team! Too opposed (or sane)? You can still raise pledges with us, attend the event, and stay warm and dry. Students, faculty, and staff can also participate by donating; we invite you to do so by purchasing one of SOWI’s paper polar bears for just $1.00 apiece in Polk 10 or online via the link below. All proceeds will benefit SOWI.

If you'd like to attend the Polar Plunge in any capacity, free parking will be available on site and shuttles will run from Reeve Union to Menominee Park’s plunge site from 9:30AM until 3:30PM, and teams will be scheduled to jump from 12:00PM to 3:00PM. Those with questions may contact Fletcher Marron at marronf@uwosh.edu or 424-1362.

To join the UHSA’s Plunge Team, to make a donation online, and to learn more about the Polar Plunge, visit http://sowi.kintera.org/foxvalleypolarplunge/uhsa. Thanks for your contributions!

Outstanding Teaching Award Presented to Dr. Dingledine

Thanks to everyone who voted spring 2011! The winner of the University Honors Program Outstanding Teaching Award for 2010 is Dr. Don Dingledine of the English Department.

Honors Core Courses--What Are They Again?

Depending on whether you began the UHP as a freshman or sophomore, here is a general summary of the Core Honors Course Requirements.

Honors Contract Courses

Have you taken all of your General Education requirements and still need to complete another Honors elective?

Talk to us about completing an Honors Contract, a process in which a 300- to 400-level course in your major or minor is turned into an Honors-level class. Because it is necessary to add an Honors dimension to the course, students should expect this component to include a couple of expanded assignments, or a substituted assignment, or an additional assignment as well as a presentation to the class. Students determine the parameters of the Honors-level work in conjunction with the instructor.

Honors Contracts are available to all majors and are subject to approval by the director of the University Honors Program. Contracts can be approved prior to the start date of a course, and must be approved by the end of the third week of the semester in which the course will be completed.

Please contact the Honors office at 424-1303 if you’re interested in this option. We look forward to working with you.
