Spring 2005

  • Kelly Bezio (BA in English, BA in French, and BA in History; minor in German) started the MA/PhD program in 2005 at the Department of English and Comparative Literature at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, N.C., where she continues to study today. She completed her master’s in English in 2007, and her Master’s Thesis Option was titled “The Methodological Unity of Science and the New Criticism.” Her dissertation examines American fiction and travel writing from the 1790s through the 1860s alongside major American medical periodicals (such as the nation’s first medical journal the Medical Repository) to ascertain the relationships between theories of disease transmission and constructions of national identity in the early national and antebellum eras.
