The University Honors Student Association is sponsoring a get-together on Wednesday, September 23, at 4:30 in the Scott Hall Main Lounge. Plans and ideas for the coming year will be shared as well as valuable advice for new students. It's also, we hope, a fine time to take a break! You, your fellow Honors students, and friends are invited for FREE root beer floats courtesy of the UHSA.
Honors Orientations are mandatory and will be held in the Honors Lounge in Oviatt House from September 14 through 17. We are located at 842 Algoma Boulevard (the historic building just north of Dempsey Hall). Please plan to attend ONE of the brief (45-minute) informational sessions:
Please join us for the 13th Annual Honors Convocation on Wednesday, September 16, at 5:00 in Pollock House! Each fall as we begin a new academic year, the Convocation is our back-to-school gathering where Honors news, plans, and opportunities are announced. We also hear from a keynote speaker. This year, we are honored to welcome DR. NORLISHA CRAWFORD (Associate Professor of English and Director of the African American Studies Program), who will present "Meditations on the Nexus of Race, Identity, and Courage in the U.S. in the 21st Century." UHSA Executive Board Member Dana Giannelli presented Dr. Robert Feldman with the UHP's Outstanding Teaching Award at the Spring 2015 Honors Graduation Ceremony on Monday, May 11. Dr. Feldman was nominated for ENGLISH 228: Honors Modern American Literature, a class he has taught since 1999.
Fifteen students will present their research methods and findings on a wide range of fascinating topics--from analyzing skeletal remains to evaluating the fine art of painting to examining eyewitness testimonies. Whether you're considering tackling an Honors Thesis, are simply interested in the subject matter, or just want to support the students' year-long efforts, please join us for a session--one or all:
Seven students at the Associate level (those who are completing their Honors and major requirements with a cumulative GPA of 3.2 to 3.49) and thirty-two at the Graduate level (those who are completing their Honors and major requirements with a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher) will be awarded Honors Certificates and Medallions, respectively, at the Honors Graduation Ceremony. The event will take place on Monday, May 11, at the Alumni Welcome and Conference Center at 5:30:
