The academic
portion of your university career is one significant determinant
in your future success. The primary purposes of the fraternity
system is to encourage and develop high scholastic achievement
among its members. Just over 50% of students in a university or
college end up graduating. However, if you belong to a fraternity,
your chances of graduating increase to over 70%!

Amy and Eric met at UW- Oshkosh in Breese hall in the fall of 1990. We dated briefly and remained friends. It would take us awhile until our paths crossed again for good.
In the meantime, Eric moved to Colorado to ride powder waves and drive Jeeps the way they were meant to be. (Sorry Rich, but up on the lawn of 555 Algoma does not count). Amy worked on finishing her schooling.
While stumbling from ski town to ski town, Eric finally found his calling as a firefighter. He finished at the Fire Academy and in 2002, secured a paid position at Copper Mountain Fire Dept. Two years later, Amy moved into the neighborhood to room with Amy Yanda-Lee in the Vail Valley.
In Nov. of 2007 under a full moon and the Gore Range Mountains, Eric Johnson and Amy Pierre were engaged. We were married on July 18th, 2008 in the meadows of Evergreen, Colorado with many Gamma Phi Beta and Delta Sigma Phi alums in attendance.
Eric and Amy now call Golden, CO home. Amy is a School Counselor for a magnet K-8 school in the Adams 12 School District. Eric is a Captain for Red White and Blue Fire Rescue in Breckenridge, Co.
We would like to wish you all a memorable Homecoming and college career in Oshkosh. We hold GPB and DSP very dear to our hearts and your friendships as well.
Wishing we were there,
Amy Pierre-Johnson and Eric Johnson
Golden, CO

Epsilon Beta chapter member John Close (1972-75) spotted his 150th career
auto race August 20 competing in the O'Reilly Auto Parts 200 NASCAR Craftsman
Truck Series race at Bristol (TN) Motor Speedway. Close spotted driver Donny
Lia to a 12th-place finish in the event.
Earlier this season, Close and Lia - a rookie - won the NASCAR Truck Series
race at Mansfield, OH. It was the first time a rookie had won in the Truck
Series since Carl Edwards did it in 2003.
Close - known to all as 'JC' in college - has spotted 11 winners, scored 21
Top-5 and 36 Top-10 finishes in his spotting career. Close has finished in the
Top-15 in 64 percent of the events he has competed in since first taking
the spotter's stand in a NASCAR Busch (now Nationwide) Series race at
Miami-Homestead Speedway in 1995.
Close, EB Corresponding Secretary and President of IFC President while at
UW-O, is also a noted motorsports journalist contributing to a host of
automotive and motorsports publications and web sites - including his own site
www.CloseFinishes.com.
He has also penned two books - Tony Stewart - From Indy Phenom to NASCAR
Superstar - and - NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series - From Desert Dust To
Superspeedways. Close is also a regular guest every Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. Eastern on SIRIUS Satellite Radio, NASCAR Channel 128.
The two shots of Close here are up on the spotter's stand at Kansas Speedway
and a photo from back in his Epsilon Beta 'club' days back in the 70's.

JC can be contacted at closefinishes@aol.com

From: Brad Heutmaker
Subject: Marathon Finish Line
On Sunday I completed my first marathon, and at the end Hal (my father-in-law) popped LaRue over the fence to me near the finish line and we ran the final yards together holding hands. After years of fluctuating weight and overcoming type 2 diabetes it was very emotional to run a marathon, complete it, and share the moment with LaRue, Ivette, and Hal. It was a great day and I am looking forward to many more marathons. Check out the links below.
This one will take you to my online public photo album, where you can see the pictures Ivette took of the marathon...
http://picasaweb.google.com/bsheut/MarathonWeekend2008
And this link will take you to the NBC San Diego Website and here you will see video of LaRue and I crossing the finish line together at the 6:25:05.

YOU Make it a GREAT Day...
