O sole mio !! Sunny Italy...

Renewed by solar energy, we greeted the new day in Rome and made our way from the Termini to our Roman "digs" in a matter of minutes...then off on a walkabout to the Bernini and Trevi Fountains, a quick gelatto, the Pantheon, another quick gelatto, the Piazza Narvona, more fountains more gelatti and before we knew it, Rome was conquered by the Wisconsin Gelattites...Veni, vidi, vici !!

During our first week, we explored both the breadth and depth of Rome as we ventured just outside the old city walls to the Catacombs of Domitilla, toured the Colosseum, the Palatine Hill and the Roman Forum. One full day was needed to absorb the vast collections of the eight Vatican Museums which culminated in a visit to the Sistine Chapel. Taking advantage of the first day of Lent in the Christian liturgical calendar, some students joined Pope Benedict XVI as he distributed the Lenten ashes at the Church of Santa Sabina.
