Regional Studies
Minor and Emphasis
The International Studies Program also offers four Regional Studies as minors or emphases.
These focus primarily upon the study of a geographic region, its language,
culture, religions, history and role within international affairs.
In order to complete a Regional Studies emphasis, the student must choose 15 credits (5 courses) from the respective International Studies course list.

Latin American Studies
Minor
Required Credits: 24 minimum
Required Courses: 59-420 Seminar in Latin American Studies
Other Requirements: 21 additional credits from the courses in the Latin
American Studies section of Course List 3. Students must include at least
one course each from any four of the departments/disciplines specified in the Latin
American Studies list.
Comment: courses which satisfy the credit requirements of this minor also
count toward an International Studies Major, enabling students to combine
the two into a package of complementing specializations.
Students are strongly advised to include at least two years of Spanish in
their studies.

European Studies
Minor
Required credits: 24 minimum
Required courses: 59-402 Seminar in International Studies or 59- 403 Honors:
Seminar in International Studies
Other requirements: 21 additional credits from the courses in the European
Studies section of Course List 3.

count toward an International Studies Major, enabling students to combine
the two into a package of complementing specializations.

Asian Studies
Minor
Required credits: 24 minimum
Required courses: 59-402 Seminar in International Studies or 59- 403 Honors:
Seminar in International Studies
Other requirements: 21 additional credits from the courses in the Asian
Studies section of Course List 3. Of these 21 credits: 12 must be upper
division credits from three of the departments specified in the Asian Studies
list. Additionally: 15 credits, out of these 21 required credits, must represent
courses in general Asian Studies, South Asian or East Asian Studies.
Comment: courses which satisfy the credit requirements of this minor also
count toward an International Studies Major, enabling students to combine
the two into a package of complementing specializations.
Students in this minor will wish to consider studying the Japanese Language.

African Studies
Minor
Required credits: 23 minimum
Required courses: 59-402 Seminar in International Studies or 59- 403 Honors:
Seminar in International Studies
Other requirements: 20 additional credits from the courses in the African
Studies section of Course List 3. Students must include one course each
from any four of the departments specified in the African Studies list.

the two into a package of complements specializations.
French is the recommended foreign language for this minor.
