Enhance teaching/learning excellence

  • Increased the number of courses and faculty/ instructional academic staff who are prepared to teach hybrid and online courses.

  • Implemented Quality Matters review of online courses in the Accel BSN option.

  • Created and empowered a college evaluation committee to expand evaluation data collected, analyzed and used for continuous quality improvement

  • Continued use of holistic admission into undergraduate options with a goal of recruiting/retaining high quality students and increased diversity

  • Fostered a culture of civility and professionalism for faculty/academic staff and students that demonstrates the college's “Values in Action,” via a welcoming ceremony, transition workshop for graduating seniors, student leadership teams, etc.

  • Hosted the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education re-accreditation site visit April 19– 21, 2010. Verbal outcome indicated that all standards were met for both the undergraduate and graduate programs. Official outcome reported in October 2010.

  • Piloted a clinical community health course in Uganda during May and June 2010. 

  • Admitted first class of MSN to DNP students in summer 2010

 Foster scholarship

  • Awarded four doctoral awards to IAS enrolled in part-time doctoral study

  • Awarded one doctoral completion award to IAS who completed doctorate and converted into a faculty tenure track position.

  • Faculty presented at International Conference in Chennai, India with undergraduate students in attendance.

  • Multiple faculty/IAS presentations held at local, state, regional and national conferences (e.g., MNRS, WNA, STTI, AORN) 

  • College professor (Dr. Wurzbach) recognized by UWO with Rosebush Professorship Award and Distinguished Teaching Award;  University of Minnesota School of Nursing cited Dr. Wurzbach as one of their top 100 alumni at a 100th anniversary event

  • Continued growth in the number of faculty/IAS refereed publications and awards for scholarship

Integrate current realities/contemporary initiatives and future challenges into nursing education

  • Continued undergraduate quality improvements incorporating American Association of College of Nursing (AACN) Baccalaureate Essentials and Institute of Medicine (IOM) and Robert Wood Johnson Foundation(RWJF) recommendations for nursing education. 

  • Graduate program emphases reviewed for above-quality improvements, along with rapid societal changes in role of Clinical Nurse Leader and Nurse Educator

  •  Continued emphasis on cultural competency development by faculty/ instructional academic staff and students.

  • Continued goal of increasing awareness of global realities via international initiatives in Africa and India and exploration of future clinical classes in Peru.

Demonstrate behaviors that support universal sustainability efforts and resource management

  • Empowered employees and students to exercise green principles whenever possible (i.e., lab classes reusing supplies for practice experiences;  recycling supplies for student practice from local agencies; aiming to reduce paper use via online exams).

  • Continued goal of exploration of faculty/instructional academic staff  electronic portfolios to reduce paper use for personnel action.

  • Created a sustainability bulletin board and mini award for ideas to move the college toward sustainability goals.Actively engage external community of interest in College of Nursing initiative.

 

Actively engage external community in College of Nursing initiatives

  • Revised the purpose and role of the Board of Visitors to increase consultation role in curriculum and program development; clinical teaching/learning strategy.

  • Held successful 17th-Annual Nightingale Award event to recognize excellence in nursing practice.

  • Improved college web site to be more “user friendly” and comprehensive.

  • Published annual issue of  CONtact Magazine (alumni publication) in print and online.

  • Planned for the college's 40th anniversary with publicity regarding CCNE re-accreditation,  alumni award and 5,000-plus graduates
