Polk Library
Develop informational research methods lab
The English Department and Polk Library offered a skills-based information literacy lab, coordinated with English 302, Advanced Composition. A librarian taught the one-credit-hour lab, which introduced methods of finding, evaluating and using library resources in the students’ areas of study. An assessment and evaluation component was included to evaluate the need for such a course.
Polk Library developed a concept and designs to convert its traditional reference room into a learning environment called Polk 101 — the place for students to being their research. It is a transformed area where students and the University community can find information, get help and create complete papers and projects. Polk 101 was open for the beginning the fall 2008 semester.
