Liberal Education Reform

In May 2008, Student Learning Outcomes for the campus were approved by the governance groups. They are based on the Essential Learning Outcomes of the American Association of Colleges and Universities (AAC&U) available at www.uwosh.edu/projects/lert/lert.php.

A group of faculty from the Liberal Education Reform Team (LERT) met over the summer to plan for the 2008-2009 academic year. In fall, LERT met four times to discuss next steps in integrating the learning outcomes into student interactions (e.g., curriculum and student activities), internal/external interactions and assessment. LERT is forming subcommittees to work on clarifying construct definitions for the learning outcomes.

In addition to the University's internal process to define the learning outcomes, AAC&U had asked UW Oshkosh to respond to drafts of “rubrics” for assessing the association's learning outcomes. These rubrics conform to some degree with the University's outcomes, so LERT will ask the subcommittees to provide some feedback to AAC&U.
