Example essay:
I still remember the first time I stepped on campus at UW Oshkosh. Coming back from a road trip, I took a pit stop and scoured the seemingly maze-like one-way streets that outlined campus. I found a street to park on and briskly walked in a direction that seemed logical. A red brick building came into view bearing the label “Harrington Hall.” So I was officially on campus—a little confused, but more curious.

My pace became more deliberate as my eyes evaluated the surroundings. I wanted to explore a building although time was short and I was timid. I crossed the street and discovered Reeve Memorial Union, which seemed like a safe bet. I entered this bustling building, and it was filled with life. My eyebrows rose, and my lips half smiled; something about this building was comfortable.

After eating lunch I leisurely exited the Union and made it back to my car. Driving home that night, I realized I could see myself going to school at UWO. My first visit to UW Oshkosh was very ordinary, and I took it for nothing more at the time. But now as I enter my senior year at UW Oshkosh, I realize my first visit set the stage for an extraordinary experience. My time at UW Oshkosh has helped me uncover who I am and what I am truly passionate about.

When I first stepped on campus, I hadn’t figured out the career of my dreams. Now I have that career in mind, and my University experience is laying the framework for me to get there.

When I first stepped on campus, I was nervous to explore the unknown. Now, I’m confident to navigate uncharted territory. I’ve learned to figure things out myself, be independent and meet new people.

When I first stepped on campus, I was shy, but now I’ve become a part of the campus life and have very few bashful bones left in my body. I’m more curious then ever to meet new challenges, and I’m not afraid to fail.

While I’m thankful for the professors, resources, involvement opportunities, facilities, learning, friends, experiences and much more at UW Oshkosh – I’m glad I chose UWO because of the collective impact these aforementioned benefits have had on my growth as a person.

I chose UWO because something about this University was and still is comfortable.
