Academic Attire
In centuries-old tradition, faculty and academic staff wear academic regalia as a symbol of their commitment to teaching, research, creative activities, and noble service. This attire is symbolic with origins in the Middle Ages. Faculty and staff may wear their own attire, rent or purchase attire through the University Books and More, or borrow attire from the commencement office.
Renting Attire
Academic attire matching your degree and discipline may be rented
through University Books and More by calling Tiffany Cummings at
424-2381. Please make rental arrangements at least 4 weeks prior to the
ceremony.
Purchasing Attire
Custom academic regalia is also available for purchase through our
vendor, Jostens. Hoods, tams, and gowns may also be purchased individually. Please contact Tiffany Cummings at University Books and More to set up an appointment.
Borrowing Attire
There is no charge to borrow academic attire from the commencement
office. However, attire is limited (hood colors may not always match
your discipline and robes may not always match your degree). Regalia is
available on a first come, first served basis from a stock of attire
that has been graciously donated by alumni, retired faculty and staff.
