THE "SKINNY" ON TRANSFER CREDITS
Transfer credit situations arise when students change colleges or when they take summer session courses on a non-UW Oshkosh campus. Transferring credits between another college and UW Oshkosh can be confusing. There will be a formal decision made on what your courses elsewhere "count for" toward a UW Oshkosh degree. That decision will be reflected on your STAR once you get here.
Meanwhile, here are two tools you can use to help predict what will happen.
Transfer credits from another UW campus: www.uwsa.edu/tis/
Transfer credits from certain private schools: http://admissions.uwosh.edu/otis/.
The above are "wizards". Basically you choose UW Oshkosh as the "to" campus and plug in course information from the "from" campus, and the "wizard" tells you what the course "counts for" at UW Oshkosh.
If you are searching for a summer school class someplace else in Wisconsin, that will count for your UW Oshkosh degree, be sure to use a wizard AHEAD OF TIME for best results!
Sometimes a course that sounds identical to one at UW Oshkosh, just isn't considered the same. Maybe it doesn't have a lab, or it's at a lower level, or has different prerequisites, or is worth fewer credits. If that happens with a course that's required for your major, your STAR will continue to show a "NO" and "-" message next to the requirement, and you'll have to take the UW Oshkosh version of the course to take care of it. Your other option is to contact the department that sponsors the course and see if they will either make an exception (rare!) or if they offer a sort of placement exam.
