What is the difference between the Healthcare-Business and Healthcare-Science emphases that I see in several UW Oshkosh departments?

The Healthcare-Science degrees (HC-Ss) are rigorous pathways to any of the higher-level health professions, such as Medicine or Dentistry (Physics may need to be added to qualify for certain professional schools).   The HC-Ss are built upon the major of the sponsoring department (Biology & Microbiology, Chemistry, Kinesiology & Health, and Psychology) but align with the requirements for most professional schools in terms of  math, science and humanities courses.

The Healthcare-Business degrees (HC-Bs) were created in consultation with regional Healthcare providers in the summer of 2006.  The HC-Bs require fewer majors (science) courses in order to make room in the 4-year degree plan for 17-18 credits of coursework in the College of Business Administration.  The HC-Bs are more flexible than the HC-Ss in the choice of required science courses. Specifically, the HC-Bs may allow the student to choose either:

It should be noted that, in general, the HC-Bs do NOT confer eligibility to apply to higher-level health professions schools, such as med school, and do not allow a student to switch to another BIO or CHEM degree plan without starting over in Chemistry and perhaps Biology.  See an advisor for details.
