Urinary Tract Infections
A urinary tract infection (UTI) is an infection that occurs anywhere in the urinary tract such as the kidneys, ureters, bladder and/or urethra.
Symptoms
- Burning or pain when passing urine
- Urge to urinate constantly
- Feeling of a full bladder even after passing urine
- Cloudy urine
- Blood in the urine
Self-Care
- Empty your bladder as soon as you feel the need to urinate
- Drink plenty of water or juices such as cranberry
- Drink a glass of water before sex and go to the bathroom immediately after sex
- Females should wipe front to back to prevent bacteria entering the urethra
- Use a form of birth control other than a diaphragm and/or spermicidal jelly
