Meningitis
Bacterial meningitis is an inflammation of the membranes surrounding the brain and spinal cord caused by several types of bacteria. One of the most serious is Meningococcal. This type of meningitis is transmitted through respiratory secretions (e.g., coughing and sneezing) and direct contact with persons infected with the disease. This bacteria may also cause meningococcemia, a serious infection of the blood.
There is a vaccine that can reduce your risk of getting this illness.
