Colds & Flu
Symptoms:
Cold symptoms usually affect your head. Colds have low fever, mild aches and pains, runny nose, sneezing and cough. Flu symptoms come on quickly and affect the body all over. Flu has high fever, headaches, body pains (often severe), sometime a runny nose, cough and sore throat.
Causes:
Both colds and flu are seasonal and both are caused by viruses.
Self-Care:
- Get a yearly flu vaccine
- Wash your hands often
- Try not to come in contact with people when they have a cold or the flu
- Get regular exercise
- Eat well
- Get plenty of sleep
- Drink lots of liquids
- Take over-the-counter medicines for aches and pains
- Use a cool-mist vaporizer in your room
- Gargle every few hours with a solution of ¼ teaspoon of salt dissolved in 1 cup of warm water
- Drink tea with lemon in it
