Asthma
Asthma is an inflammation of the air passages in your lungs, causing constriction and mucous production. This results in coughing, wheezing and shortness of breath. Asthma may be hereditary and/or caused by environmental allergies. Asthma triggers may include smoke, pollens, animal dander, dust, perfumes, certain medicines, cold air or physical exertion.

- Have your condition monitored by a healthcare provider
- Take your medications as prescribed
- Avoid allergens that trigger symptoms
- Use an air conditioner to limit exposure to environmental allergens
- Limit dust in your home environment
- Avoid exposure to animal dander
- Avoid smoking and smoky environments
- Use a peak flow meter to monitor your air flow
- Keep your body in good physical shape with regular exercise
