University of Wisconsin Oshkosh Head Start

Nutrition Services

Mealtimes are planned to introduce good nutrition, teach manners, offer new food experiences and promote socialization.  All children receive at least one meal and a snack; those in the extended day program receive breakfast, lunch, and a snack.

Staff and families work together to identify children’s nutritional needs.  Nutritional needs are assessed on the Nutrition Screening form.  Food allergies are identified on the medical form and are posted in the food preparation area.  Menus are planned by the nutrition staff and reviewed for nutritional value and cultural and ethnic preferences.

In the event a child has a food restriction due to disability or health issues, an individualized health plan is developed and staff is trained as needed.  Nutritional services follow USDA regulations and State of Wisconsin Child Care licensing guidelines for menus, food preparation and storage; and are overseen by the Health Services Manager and consulting dietitian.

For more information, contact Health Services Manager, Diana Aronson via email or phone: 920-424-1235.
