the various components of the UW-Oshkosh Faculty Development Program.

Program Components: Purpose and Criteria
TEACHING
Purpose: Professional renewal through activities that impact pedagogical issues.
Criteria: Supports activities that impact teaching that cannot be reasonably completed as part of a proposer's normal professional responsibility.
Submit six copies to Dean's Office for peer review by elected panel of colleagues. Teaching Committee evaluates the reviews and proposals.
RESEARCH
Purpose: Professional renewal through research compatible with proposer's discipline and career development.
Criteria: Scholarship, originality, achievability, proposer's commitment, significance. Proposals should be clearly written and capable of being understood by someone not familiar with the discipline.
Submit six copiesto Dean's Office for peer review by elected panel of colleagues. Research Committee evaluates the reviews and proposals.
FACULTY COLLEGE
Purpose: Increases professional competence and teaching effectiveness through in-service programs.
Criteria: Anticipated interest of University community, feasibility, and potential cost/benefit.
Submit eight copiesto Dean's Office. Reviewed by the Faculty Development Board.
OFF-CAMPUS
Purpose: Supports enrollment in professional workshops or short courses.
Criteria: Attendance at conferences normally is not supported. Intensive, focused, interactive experience offered at level appropriate for faculty member's level of experience.
Submit eight copiesto the Dean's Office. Reviewed by the Faculty Development Board. Proposals should be received in the Office of Grants and Faculty Development four weeks prior to the start of the program.
Purpose: Supports enrollment in intensive workshops, courses, or conferences (usually off campus).
Criteria: Provides support for activities that significantly contribute to the participant's professional development and her/his potential contributions to the University.
Submit eight copies to the Dean's Office (or equivalent). Reviewed by the Academic Staff Professional Development Committee of the Faculty Development Board. Proposals should be received in the Office of Grants and Faculty Development four weeks prior to start of the program.
SMALL GRANTS
Purpose: Provides up to $500 to support research and teaching projects.Criteria: Projects must be in preparation of a teaching, research, or extramural proposal or part of an approved proposal.
Submit one copyof the Small Grants Form to the Office of Grants and Faculty Development. Proposals may be submitted at any time throughout the year. Response time to faculty is within three days.
FACULTY SABBATICAL
Purpose: To enable recipients to engage in intensive study and scholarship.
Criteria: Projects must help faculty to become more effective teachers and scholars and to enhance their service to the University. One and two semester sabbatical leaves are available.
Submit eight copiesof the Sabbatical proposal to the Dean's Office.
