"Inspired by the monumental lions guarding the Art Institute in Chicago and the New York Public Library, the lion is an iconic symbol of courage, wisdom, justice and power. The study of humanities reflects the articulation and implementation of these character traits. Taken at our own Paine Art Center and Gardens in Oshkosh, this image offers a fresh perspective on the time-honored tradition of continuing education in the 21st century." ~Lucy Boyer, Runner-up

“While creating this piece for Oshkosh Scholar I was trying to find a way to depict the weaving of different ideas. I decided the best way to do this would be using the idea of a spirograph. Each line is a varying width, texture or color to symbolize different ideas. They then intersect in the top left corner symbolizing the culmination of ideas into a solid theory or creation.” ~Ashley Christopherson, Runner-up

“While working on the Oshkosh Scholar assignment, I had an idea that required me to sharpen some of my pencils. While I was cleaning up the mess from the shavings, I got another idea. One of the tools every student has are pencils. Since students usually sharpen their pencils multiple times during projects, the shavings represent the hard work and dedication students put into their projects.” ~David Kufahl, Runner-up
