Leveraging good news

Yesterday, we got the good news we love to hear. One of our colleagues let us know that her proposal got funded. She was happy and so were we. And it’s important to take a moment to celebrate the joy of receiving approval from a rigorous peer review.

But what’s next?

Sure, there are a million things to do to ramp up the proposal. But don’t overlook one important point: Why did you get funded? You obviously did some things right because you got funded. Learn from that experience. Talk with the program officer and ask candidly, “What attracted you to this proposal?” Make note of the answers, because you want to include those same features in your next proposal.
