When she was a high school exchange student in New Zealand, Polly Montgomery sent letters to her hometown newspaper so friends and neighbors could read about her adventures. For the past eight years she has continued to share her enthusiasm for the written word as director of the Fox Valley Writing Project.

Northern Minnesota was an apt place for UW Oshkosh Biologist Bob Pillsbury to grow up. A childhood passion was canoeing the thousands of acres of pristine water with hundreds of miles of breathtaking shorelines. It is also the place where his current passion—wild rice research—was nurtured.
