The application of spectral methods to the characterization of the structure of inorganic and organic compounds will be presented.  Specific topics will include infrared, Raman, ultraviolet and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopes and mass spectrometry. The laboratory will involve the use of these techniques to identify the structure of unknown samples. 435/635 (2+3)
