Forrest R. Polk Library

Polk Library supports the curricular needs of the University by providing reliable information and real service that is available 24/7. It has a core collection of traditional library materials, including 450,000 books, 1,183 current periodical subscriptions, 12,000 multimedia titles and more than 1 million microforms. The library also provides access to many forms of electronic information, such as full text periodical articles from 16,000 periodical titles, 12,000 electronic books and more. The library’s online catalog allows patrons to check their library record, browse new library purchases and check out materials from any UW library and have them delivered to campus.

Polk Library is normally open more than 96 hours a week and provides services, including reference, library instruction, circulation, reserve and interlibrary loan. In addition, most electronic collections and services, such as e-reserve, universal borrowing and virtual reference, are available to currently registered students, faculty and staff by remote access from any Internet-connected workstation on or off campus.

Computer facilities within the library include 33 workstations in the Reference Room, which provide access to all the library’s electronic resources with convenient laser printing for full-text articles. In addition, Polk Library has eight (8) wireless laptops available for check-out within the building. A general computer access lab is located in Polk 118 for other computer needs.
