SPEC ED 614: Advocacy, Family Empowerment and Special Education Law

This course addresses three interrelated topics: (1) the role and responsibility of special education professionals to serve as advocates for students with disabilities and their families; (2) the skills and strategies needed by special education professionals to effectively support, collaborate with and empower families of students with disabilities; and (3) special education legal issues. Further topics include school organizational and administration issues, collaborative consultation models, effective communication and professional ethics. 414/614
