Dear Campus Community:

The UW Oshkosh student at the center of last week’s racist, homophobic, Islamophobic and anti-Semitic social media images has left Oshkosh. We feel it is important to make you aware of the student’s decision as we continue our thorough investigation into this matter.

I also want to thank all of the students and community members who have reached out to university leadership, UW Oshkosh Police and our Dean of Students to share questions, concerns and new information. Please continue to reach out by contacting our Dean of Students office: (920) 424-3100. This is helping our ongoing review.

Based on our current investigation, we have no reason to believe that anyone is in physical danger on our campuses. As a reminder, our Counseling Center is a valuable resource to anyone who feels stressed, uneasy or simply needs to talk to someone. You can call any time to speak with a professional and set up an appointment for support: (920) 424-2061.

I also encourage anyone who witnesses or experiences an instance of bias to report it. One tool always available to you is our bias-incident reporting form: https://uwosh.edu/police/bias-incident-report.

Thank you again for appreciating the balance we must apply as a university when it comes to sharing information. We honor our responsibility to keep you informed and our obligation to follow policies and laws that govern student privacy.

Sincerely,

Chancellor Andrew Leavitt
