The Geology Department is now accepting applications
for positions as Laboratory Teaching Assistants and Tutors for the fall 2013
semester. Everyone who wishes to be a T.A. and/or Tutor must apply, including
those who are currently employed.
The requirements for qualification as a
T.A./Tutor are:
A) The student must be a
major or a minor in the discipline to serve as a proctor in the Department's
program.
B) The student must have
completed at least 60 university credits with an accumulated GPA of at least
2.80. In addition, the student must have completed at least 15 credits (including
core courses where applicable) toward his/her major or minor and must have at
least a 3.00 grade point average in the courses offered by the major or minor
department.
C) The student must have
already completed the course for which he or she will proctor with at least
a B grade. Alternatively, the student must have completed a higher level
course covering the course material with at least a B grade.
D) Student must be able
to TA and tutor all introductory geology courses Physical Geology, Evolution
of the Earth, and Environmental Geology. This means that as a TA or tutor, the
student will be prepared to answer questions or at least to know where to find
answers in the text book or lab manual.
**THERE ARE ALSO OPENINGS FOR BUILDING MONITOR(S) ON SATURDAY AND SUNDAY FROM 1:00 TO 3:00 P.M.
IMPORTANT NOTE:
Undergraduate students must be enrolled for a minimum of 6 credits during the
academic year; during the summer must be enrolled for a minimum of 3 credits
OR enrolled for a minimum of 6 credits in the coming fall semester.
Graduate students must be enrolled for a minimum of 4.5 credits during the academic
year; during the summer must be enrolled for 3 credits OR enrolled for a minimum
of 4.5 credits in the coming fall semester.
