WELCOME BACK!
It's great to see everyone returning this fall. Please read this issue of the Geology Newsletter carefully. It contains information about travel and research grants with deadlines that are coming up fast, and it also contains lots of other useful information. Also see our new Advising Web page at http://www.uwosh.edu/geology/advising/advising.php for department advising and other important geology information. Watch for the fall geology majors/minors information meeting September 25. If Teresa doesn't have your photo in our display case, come in (Harrington 215) and she will take one.
I would also like to encourage you to consider serving as a teaching assistant in introductory geology labs. This is an excellent opportunity to get some experience as a geologist. It also places you in a position to work closely with the professor in charge, and this will benefit you in a number of ways, including providing the professor with good things to say in a letter of reference. The requirements for being a teaching assistant are: junior standing (60 credits) with a cumulative GPA of at least 2.80; completion of at least 15 credits in geology with a GPA of at least 3.0 for geology courses. Please see Teresa Brown in the Geology Office or call 424-4460 to get an application form, and do so (and return the form) soon so that we can get teaching assignments made as quickly as possible.
Have a great semester!
