The Gender Equity Council, in its role as an all-university committee, has been serving you since 2001. At that time, the chancellor charged us to implement a 10 year plan for addressing women’s issues that was developed in response to the Status of Women Report compiled at this university at the request of System.

Actions so far :

  • proposal of our current Women’s Center
  • the annual Celebration of Women
  • work with Affirmative Action and Human Resources to revise policies concerning soft benefits for domestic partners and family leave
  • devise educational programs on topics such as Partner Benefits and Title IX
  • create a Faculty College on Infusing the Voices of Women into Your Curriculum
  • become trained to be sexual harassment first contact people.

As we continue to work on implementing the ten year plan, we also wonder what else we can be doing to improve the status of women at this university. If it helps to get the brain working, we’ll give you our original charge from System:

Think about your gendered experiences in the following five areas:

  1. Learning and Work Environment
  2. Balancing Work and Personal Life
  3. Hiring, promotion. and retention of Women faculty, academic staff, and classified staff
  4. Expansion of educational opportunities for Women students
  5. Organizational Structure
