Collaborative Research Endowment
The Goal
$1.6 million
The Situation
As the world gets increasingly more complex, expectations for college graduates continue to grow. Schools, healthcare organizations, businesses, government and non-profits all demand well-rounded graduates who are ready to practice in their chosen fields. They demand critical-thinkers and problem-solvers. They expect creativity and a sense of social responsibility along with a global orientation. Graduates themselves expect to have a solid knowledge base and transferable skills for a changing world.
The Impact
The spirit of the pride. purpose. promise. campaign is the student-faculty academic relationship. This relationship, distinguished by active learning, mutual respect and collaborative scholarship, is critical to the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh's vision of engaging people and ideas for the common good.
Collaborative scholarship links theory with application. Projects range from scientific research to creative expression and from international study to business process and community service. This active learning model empowers and motivates students while helping them develop the key skills and knowledge needed for employment, further education and active participation in their communities. Faculty members are equally rewarded by the opportunities to enhance their own knowledge through new learning.
The Promise
The University of Wisconsin Oshkosh has a proud tradition of teaching excellence. It is a tradition that attracts quality students as well as top-notch faculty. It is a tradition that supports innovative learning experiences and individualized relationships that lead to better-prepared graduates and engaged faculty. It is a tradition that enhances the quality of life in the region and the state. The collaborative research fund will help us deliver that promise of active learning to prepare future generations for a changing world.
In Action
"There are so many unique and distinct ways UW Oshkosh affects the Winnebago County Literacy Council. We’ve had University faculty serve as board members and faculty, staff and students serve as tutors."
"In addition, UW Oshkosh assistant art professor Karina Cutler-Lake and her graphic design class, are helping to develop promotional materials for us that will raise awareness of our services and agency needs."
Lisa Ellis, Executive Director Winnebago County Literacy Council
