Letter from the Campaign Chairs

Why a capital campaign, and why now? The campaign is designed to address the current and future needs of the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh. There has not been a new academic building on campus in nearly 40 years, and a lack of adequate classroom space is challenging the University's ability to provide an exceptional educational experience.  Launching the campaign now will also reap the best returns, because $8 million in private funding for a new building will generate a $40 million match from the state. It's simply too good a deal to pass up.

Why include scholarships? The University wants to attract high-quality students, who in turn attract outstanding faculty. Despite our efforts to keep UW Oshkosh affordable, rising educational costs are seriously hindering students' ability to complete their education. We don't want to lose any of these students for financial reasons—for their sake as well as ours.

Why collaborative research? Because it is in our best interest to foster intensive study of relevant topics—research initiatives not only broaden the educational experiences of our students; they attract public attention, respect and funding. Research will ignite growth and enterprise in the northeastern Wisconsin region.

We have a vested interest in the success of the University. This capital campaign will transform UW Oshkosh. That's not a word to be used lightly. Transformation requires vision, courageous goal-setting, bold action and a commitment to becoming a dynamic leader. We are excited to be a part of this extraordinary experience.

The University of Wisconsin Oshkosh is an asset to this region and if it is making a determined, intensive effort to become a better resource and a better neighbor, then it is our place to help.

Join us. We can and will make a difference for all of us.
