New Academic Center

The Goal

$8.6 million

The Situation

Northeastern Wisconsin, one of the largest population centers in Wisconsin continues to grow, and with that growth comes an increased demand for educational programs and services. The University of Wisconsin Oshkosh, the region’s premiere university and the state’s third largest, has grown to meet that demand. But the campus has not added a new academic center since the early 1970s and is significantly short of meeting minimum space requirements. Many facilities are outdated as well and are no longer competitive with other schools in the Midwest.

The Impact

The cornerstone of the pride. purpose. promise. campaign is a new $48-million academic center for the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh. The building will provide a contemporary home for the College of Business and numerous College of Letters and Science departments. It will feature state-of-the-art classrooms, labs, project rooms and faculty offices. The University-wide impact will relieve crowding and provide opportunities for future renovations to update facilities for the colleges of Nursing and Education and Human Services.

Located along the Fox River, the academic center will become the new “front door” to the campus. Award-winning Chicago architectural firm VOA, in association with Berners-Schober Associates Inc., Green Bay, have been selected to design the building. Berners-Schober was the architect for the $16-million remodeling/renovation of the University’s Halsey Science Center.

With an $8-million investment in private funds, the University of Wisconsin System Board of Regents has agreed to commit $40 million from the state of Wisconsin for a 500-percent return on investment.

The Promise

The University of Wisconsin Oshkosh is proud to offer quality education in an attractive setting. Modern facilities and amenities are important to students, faculty and staff. Modern facilities are necessary to meet Wisconsin’s growing demand for well-educated professionals and business leaders. An investment in the new academic center will help us deliver the promise of a contemporary learning environment to future generations.

In Action

"The campus educates people who we have an opportunity to hire. I was a business student there before I went into this business. Some students work part-time for us, and several of our employees have attended UW Oshkosh. There are many businesses that wouldn't be here if it weren’t for the University."
