Major Education Emphasis

Major with emphasis in Education: Required 36 credits minimum *Recommended for students who wish to fulfill requirements leading to Department of Public Instruction license for either Early Childhood-Adolescence (EC-A) (Birth-age-21) (PK-12) or Early Adolescence-Adolescence (EA-A) (age 20-21) (6-12).

A) Literature Option

  • 12 credits in literature courses: Spanish 314 is required, plus 3 additional courses in literature
  • 9 credits: Spanish 307, one course in culture and civilization (334, 335, 332, 363, 365) and 1 additional course in language

B) Language Option

  • 6 credits in literature courses: Spanish 314 is required plus 1 additional literature course.
  • 12 credits: Spanish 307, Spanish 313, and one course in culture and civilization (334,335,332,363,365) are required and 1 additional course in language.

C) Language and Literature Option

  • 9 credits in literature courses: Spanish 314 is required, plus 2 additional literature courses.
  • 9 credits: Spanish 307 and one course in culture and civilization (334, 335, 332, 363, 365) are required, plus 1 course in language. 

Comment:

For all the Options A),B), and C) only ONE course from the Spanish for the Professions (308, 341, 342,342) may be counted toward the major or minor

 

DPI Certfication

This certification requires a period of language immersion in residence in a country in which the language is spoken. The immersion program must be approved by the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures. Education majors in Spanish must fulfill the following additional requirements: 13-330 Teaching Foreign Language Elementary, 14-347 Teaching Foreign Language Secondary, 14-371 Clinical in Foreign Language.  For more information go to Wisconsin DPI Requirements for Teachers
