Home
The Department offers majors and minors in French, German, Japanese Studies and Spanish. We also offer beginning- and intermediate-level courses in those languages and in Arabic, Chinese and Russian.
The ability to communicate in another language gives one direct access to other cultures and perspectives and is an invaluable asset for students wishing to live and work abroad or in the increasingly diverse U.S. Foreign language study promotes sensitivity to linguistic and cultural variety and, in so doing, fosters the essential civic characteristics of tolerance and open-mindedness. In a world of increasing global interdependence, intercultural awareness and competence can be critical to both personal and professional fulfillment.
Our Philosophy
The philosophy of the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures at UW Oshkosh is in full congruence with the College of Letters and Science's mission to enhance communication skills and increase knowledge of human cultures. Our programs contribute to the intellectual, social and emotional development of our students, supporting their growth both as individuals and as members of society.
