The Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures is located in Clow Faculty, 317. The Foreign Languages Lab is located in Clow Classroom Building 250.
The ability to communicate in another language gives you direct access to other cultures and perspectives and is an invaluable asset for students wishing to live and work abroad or in the increasingly diverse United States. Foreign language study promotes sensitivity to linguistic and cultural variety and, in so doing, fosters the essential civic characteristics of tolerance and open-mindedness. In a world of increasing global interdependence, intercultural awareness and competence can be critical to both personal and professional fulfillment.
There are additional benefits to the study of a foreign language. Foreign language students often begin to look at their native language and the culture(s) associated with it with heightened awareness. Moreover, sustained and intense foreign language study improves overall learning as students inevitably make connections to other subjects across the curriculum.
