Italian-American Internment: A Secret History
Italian-American Internment: A Secret History (1996) The History Channel, in this History's Mysteries video, reveals an appalling story of Italian internment and discrimination that I had only seen 'whispered' in past historical and newspaper accounts. More than 600,000 people of Italian descent faced arrest, internment, or other restrictions. Joe DiMaggio's family was among the 10,000 West Coast Italian-Americans who were forced to leave their homes or at least abandon their fishing profession. Round ups, raids on homes, and confiscation of property were common place. Extensive details were provided on one internment camp near Missoula, Montana. On March 27, 2001 the U.S. Justice Department announced that it would conduct a review into the mistreatment of Italian-Americans during World War II.
