The Story of Andersonville
The Story of Andersonville (1991) The Friends of Andersonville Historic Site produced this documentary on CSM Camp Sumter, known as Andersonville in the North. It was intended to describe Southern Civil War prison camps and their horrors. The film draws heavily on John Ransom’s Diary (1883) and Bruce Catton’s introduction to a 1986 edition Ransom’s personal account is one of the most important and popular of all the Andersonville prison narratives. Although this documentary is a somewhat bitter indictment of Confederate policy with reference to prisoners of war, it is particularly useful for classroom use.
