Peter and Paul (1981) Emmy-winning TV mini-series starring Anthony Hopkins and Robert Foxworth. Powerfully told story, but how much of it is “history?” The idea that Paul took Peter to Galilee for a fortnight of chats about Jesus is a heartwarming image which, like the great bulk of the film, has no clear basis in history. Indeed, the role of Paul with the Jerusalem Jesus sect remains highly speculative, since our principal sources are from Paul’s letters and from biblical writings long after Paulists had emerged dominant. I enjoyed the 3-hour video, and mentally file it as delightful “mythology,” portions of which might be accurate.
