The New Testament, Parts I & II (2000)

The New Testament, Parts I & II (2000) The Teaching Company has issued Professor Bart Ehrman's 24-lecture The New Testament to replace Professor McNamer's earlier The New Testament: an Introduction. Ehrman is superb in his exhaustive historical assessment of all aspects of the New Testament, including the political and social environment of the Middle East at that time. Ehrman exhibits a solid grasp of relevant scholarship in his detailed analysis of key New Testament points. Personally, I found his erudition to be rock solid, as he clearly describes what seems credible and less so. One of many highlights: Professor Ehrman’s incisive historical analysis of the Gospels and his summation of what we know about the ‘historical Jesus.’ Absolutely essential, cohesive, and comprehensive course notes. I brought 15 copies to class. Thirty-three of 36 students clamored for copies. This had a demonstrable impact on the caliber of their Near Eastern religions final essay.
