Adds another ‘easy listening’ addition to The Teaching Company’s expansive and superb coverage of the Bible. This collection of biographic vignettes complements Professor Ehrman’s marvelous lectures. I found it rewarding to listen to different approaches to the personalities and issues of the New Testament. In the tradition of biblical storytelling, Professor Levine permits me, in my car and on plane trips, to capture the essence of these important biblical figures in a manner that does not require intense listening. I particularly appreciated her synopsis of “The Virgin Mary” and “’Doubting’ Thomas,” the latter being the subject of Elaine Pagels’ best-selling Beyond Belief: The Secret Gospel of Thomas.
The Old Testament, Parts I & II(2001) Professor Amy-Jill Levine, in these Teaching Company lectures, deftly takes the listener on a journey through the stories, traditions, and faith-based belief of the Old Testament. Professor Levine has a delightful ability to explain complexity and contradictions in a persuasive manner. Her comprehensive course notes are valuable learning supplements.
