The Edward R. Murrow Television Collection
The Edward R. Murrow Television Collection (1992) Ed Murrow is a legend in radio/tv news journalism. The McCarthy Years is a "must see" for every thoughtful American. Harvest of Shame is still superb investigative journalism. See It Now segments are important as examples of the pioneer, in-depth TV news journalism. Person-to-Person caused Murrow personal embarrassment.
Edward R. Murrow: Voice of America(1997) Good overview on the life and accomplishments of Mr. Murrow, though, to better understand the complexities of this uncommon individual, I recommend Joseph Persico’s Edward R. Murrow.
Morrie Schwartz: an ABC News Special(1996) Ted Koppel conducted a poignant 3-part interview with Morrie, a Brandeis professor dying of ALS (Lou Gherig’s disease), that touched millions of viewers. It was the catalyst for Mitch Albom’s Tuesdays with Morrie, an old man, young man, and life’s greatest lesson, which had been #1 on the non-fiction best seller’s list for nearly two years. I was deeply moved by Morrie’s humanity and wisdom and, especially, by the courage and serenity with which he approached, and spoke about, his impending death. An important message for old and young alike.
