John Brown’s Holy War (2000) Was John Brown God’s messenger, a failure who was mentally unbalanced, or a heroic crusader for the abolition of slavery? This excellent The American Experience video does not provide a definitive answer. Rather, it offers insights into the man and his movement. The involvement of Northern abolitionists in the Harpers Ferry fiasco is well documented. I find unconvincing the argument that John Brown was the trigger for the Civil War.
