Leonard Bernstein: Reaching for the Note

Leonard Bernstein: Reaching for the Note (1998) Masterful, admiring portrayal of a one-of-a-kind composer, conductor, pianist, and educator. Bernstein’s charisma infused his multiple activities, perhaps most as an educator, with his youth concerts my personal highlight. His unbridled enthusiasm made him a controversial and highly popular conductor. Among his Broadway hits, West Side Story stands as an unrivalled classic. Because he spread himself so thin, Bernstein was never able to achieve his greatest ambition—to compose a world-class classical work.
